Kimberley Elections

Your Choice, Your Vote, Your Future

Democracy is a process not a destination. The good news is that it gives us ultimate control; the bad news is that we're fully responsible.

We invited candidates for mayor and for councillor and for trustees of the local school district to introduce or refresh themselves to you (the invitation is reproduced below under "Related Items").

Excluding one person who was ill, those who chose to participate in these brief discussion are presented below. We learned from the discussion. We trust you will too.

Voting begins October 10.

The All Candidates Forum for Councillor is October 15, for Mayor and School Trustees is October 16. The Forums are being produced by the Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce. We asked Chamber manager Mike Guarnery to tell us what to expect on the 15th & 16th. His description follows the candidate videos.

We also asked Mayor McCormick for an overview of the SunMine Referendum. His response also follows the candidate videos.

Kimberley Elections

(Oct. 6)  We've completed our discussions with candidates who accepted the offer below. Both mayoral candidates, two candidates for school trustee and 8 of the candidate for councillor sat down with us. There were, strangely, two no-shows and one candidate is ill. We learned a lot ... hope you will too.

On September 27 we sent out the following email to candidates for council and mayor of Kimberley and trustee of the local school district:

Dear Candidate:

In the interest of encouraging Kimberley citizens to vote and of providing substantive and timely information about the candidates, we hope that you will accept the following offer:

Join us for a recorded conversation about your candidacy.

Next week—October 1 through 5—we will record those candidates who choose to participate. The video recording will not be edited, though identifying opens and closes will be added.

The completed programs will be posted on Monday, October 8, on our website and on e-Know’s site. Content for each participating candidate will be posted separately and may be linked to by anyone who so chooses.

Recording dates and times are available on a first-come-first-serve basis:

Monday, October 1 — 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Tuesday, October 2 — 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Wednesday, October 3 — 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Thursday, October 4 — 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Friday, October 5 — 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Please schedule a recording slot by responding to this email or by calling Paula Gordon . Allow 20 minutes from arrival to departure. Our studio is located in central Kimberley. Providing alternative times will facilitate the scheduling process.

The actual duration of the recording will be 7 minutes. Up to 2 minutes are provided at the beginning for you to share your view of how your role as a councillor/trustee/mayor will benefit Kimberley and the region. The balance of the 7 minutes will be devoted to a discussion with you of that view. We will record with three cameras, each of which will be focused on the candidate.

We hope that you’ll join us.
